Create your first discount

This guide walks you through one complete discount, from the Discount Genie home screen to a saved, active discount.

Open the discount form #

1. In Shopify admin, open Discount Genie.
2. On Home, find the Setup guide step Create your first discount and click Create discount. You can also click Discounts in the app menu.
3. Under Create discounts like a Genie, click the card for the discount type you want: Product, Order, Volume, Tiered order, Buy X Get Y or Shipping.

Set up the discount #

Every form uses the same building blocks:

1. Method: choose Discount code (customers must enter the code at checkout) or Automatic discount (customers see it in their cart and at checkout). For a code, type your own or click Generate random code.
2. Value: choose Percentage or Fixed amount and enter the number.
3. Choose targeted products: pick Target all products, or Target a group of products to narrow it down.
4. Set a target audience: pick Target all customers, or target a group of customers.
5. Set cart qualifiers (optional): conditions the cart must meet, such as a minimum subtotal.
6. Combinations: tick the product, order and shipping discounts this discount may combine with. See Combine (stack) discounts.

Save and check it #

1. Click Save. You see a Discount saved message.
2. The discount shows an Active badge, and the Summary on the right restates your setup in plain words, for example "10% off each product". Read it to confirm the discount does what you meant.
3. Test it: add a qualifying product to your cart and go to checkout. The discount should appear as its own line.

Next: show it on your store #

Saving a discount doesn't change your product pages. Customers only see it in the cart and at checkout until you add a theme block. Add the Discount banner to show the offer on your product pages.
