Gift with purchase

A gift with purchase promotion gives the customer a gift once their cart reaches an amount you choose. Gift with purchase needs a paid plan.

Before you start #

• Free an automatic discount slot. Shopify limits how many automatic discounts can be active at once, and a gift with purchase promotion uses one of them. Deactivate old ones you no longer need.
• Set your discounts to combine. Set all your discounts to combine with other product discounts before you create the promotion. See Combine (stack) discounts.
• Pick gift products that can sell. Select only active products that are published to your online store and have a price greater than zero.

Create the promotion #

1. In Discount Genie, click Gift with purchase.
2. Click Unlock by cart total/subtotal.
3. Enter a Promotion name.
4. In Gifts setup, choose the Goal type: Cart Total, Cart Subtotal or Cart Subtotal (minus product discounts).
5. Under Unlocked gifts are, choose Free, Added with a discount or Added with a lower price.
6. In Tier 1 gift, enter the amount in Customer reaches and pick the gift product.
7. To add another goal, click Add gift tier.
8. Click Save.

Choose how customers get the gift #

In Pop-up experience, choose one:

• Gifts are selected in pop-up: customers pick the gift they want, including its variant, and add it to their cart.
• Gifts are automatically added: the gift goes into the cart by itself and the pop-up only confirms it. Only free gifts can be added automatically.

Use Triggering stage to show the offer before checkout, at checkout, or both. Use Teaser display behavior to choose how the small teaser looks (icon and text, icon only, text only or hidden).

Additional settings and the app embed #

• Activate checkout validation rule (recommended): adds a check at checkout as an extra layer of security.
• Allow customer to remove gift from cart.
• Only one gift per order: turn it off to let customers earn the gifts from every tier they unlock.
• Product exclusions: excluded products don't count toward the goal.

If the page shows Please activate the app in your theme, click Go to theme editor and turn on the Gift with Purchase app embed. The pop-up and teaser need it.
