Generate bulk unique codes

Create one discount with many unique codes using the Discount Genie Bulk code generator, or upload your own codes from a CSV file.

The Bulk code generator creates one discount with many unique codes, for example one code per influencer, affiliate or email subscriber. Each code carries the same discount settings. The Bulk code generator is included on paid plans.

Create a bulk code job #

  1. In Discount Genie, click Bulk code generator in the app menu.
  2. Under Create discounts in bulk like a Genie, pick a discount type: product, order, volume, tiered order, Buy X get Y or shipping.
  3. Enter a Title. Customers never see it.
  4. Under Code settings > Code generation, pick Randomly generate codes or Upload a CSV file.
  5. Set up the discount itself below the code settings, the same way as a single discount: value, products, audience, cart qualifiers and dates.
  6. Click Save. The job shows Generating... while Discount Genie creates the codes in Shopify.

Randomly generate codes #

  1. Enter the Number of codes.
  2. Enter the Character length (at least 7). Discount Genie picks the characters at random for each code.
  3. Pick the Code character type: Numeric, Alphanumeric or Letters.
  4. Optional: add a Prefix (optional) and Suffix (optional), for example your store name.
  5. Check the Code preview under the fields. A code looks like PREFIX-XXXXXXX-SUFFIX.

Discount Genie sets no limit of its own on how many codes a job creates. Shopify's platform limits still apply.

Upload your own codes #

  1. Make a CSV file with all codes in one column.
  2. Make the first row a header that says code or codes.
  3. Choose Upload a CSV file and select the file.

Empty rows and duplicate codes are skipped, and the app tells you how many. If you set a prefix or suffix, every code in the file must start or end with it.

Tip

Give each campaign its own job with a clear title, like Spring influencers, so you can see which campaign's codes get used.

Manage a job and export codes #

Go to Bulk code generator > View my bulk discount codes to see every job, with its Status, Codes and Used counts.

  • View codes: see each code with its Status, Orders and Used count, and copy it with Copy code.
  • Add more codes: grow an existing job.
  • Stop job: pause it. The job stays stopped until you reopen it to edit and restart.
  • Duplicate job: start a new job with the same settings.
  • Export > Export as .csv, then Download .csv: get every code in a file. Your store can run one export at a time.
