Combine (stack) discounts
Choose which Discount Genie discounts can apply together, why Shopify picks one discount when they don't combine, and how discount groups stack.
"Stacking" means more than one discount applies to the same order. Discount Genie uses Shopify's own combination settings, so you control it per discount.
Turn on combinations #
- Open the discount in Discounts.
- Find the Combinations card. It reads "This product discount can be combined with:" (or order, or shipping).
- Tick each class this discount may combine with: Product discounts, Order discounts, Shipping discounts.
- Click Save.
- Repeat on the other discount. Both discounts must allow the combination for Shopify to apply them together.
The Combinations column in My discounts shows each discount's setting at a glance.
When discounts don't combine #
If two automatic discounts can apply to the same cart and they aren't set to combine, Shopify applies only the one that gives the customer the bigger saving. The other discount shows 0 uses, and Shopify gives no message about it.
If a discount shows 0 uses, check for another automatic discount that applies to the same products. Set both to combine, or deactivate the one you don't need.
Gift with purchase needs combinations too. Before you create a gift promotion, set all your discounts to combine with other product discounts.
Stack scenarios inside one discount #
Discount groups (paid plans) put several scenarios in one discount. By default only one group applies at a time: if a product is in several groups, the highest-priority group wins. You can change this in the Discount groups behavior card:
- Allow multiple discount groups to apply: more than one group can discount eligible products. Drag the groups into order under Arrange groups in level of priority.
- Discount groups can stack: discounts of the same kind (percentage or amount) add up. The app marks this Danger zone.
Some group combinations can produce large discounts. Test at checkout before you release them to customers.
Limit stacked codes #
Shopify accepts up to 5 discount codes in one checkout. To allow fewer, or to block certain codes from being combined, use rejection rules.
